The first purpose of the Charleston Expression is to be in the perfect will (perfect obedience) of the Father. This will only be accomplished through prayer, fasting, discussion, and action among the volunteers, staff, and board members.

The second purpose of the Charleston Expression is to create a structure so the body of Christ can come together to Walk in relationship, Worship in one accord, and Work to expand the Kingdom of God both vertically and horizontally. This will be accomplished by maintaining the diversity of the brethren, but the unity of the Spirit and by providing an open door for people to come just as they are without judgment to fellowship in worship to the One True Living God. We must keep an open door to allow people who are part of the body of Christ to come and pray and to have brothers and sisters in Christ to come along side them in prayer. This open door is not just for individuals but also for the other parts of the Body of Christ who are reaching out to help those in need. We must be available to help other parts of the Church in Charleston to become all that God has called them to be.

The third purpose of the Charleston Expression is to be a relevant expression of the love and power of God to people in need. This will only be accomplished by the volunteers, staff, and board displaying His love to those in need and to each other in a visible and demonstrable way. We will accomplish this by meeting the basic needs of the people who come through our doors, and by providing other resources to help them get out of poverty. Further it will be accomplished by openly pursuing every opportunity to pray for those in need of a touch from God and expecting Him to move in that individual’s life. We will work to provide support and care in whatever means available by the leading of the Holy Spirit to each individual person. We will bestow upon each individual a level of respect due a person created in the image of God.

The fourth purpose of the Charleston Expression is to be a credible expression of the body of Christ to the secular community around us. This will be accomplished as we fulfill the first three purposes of the Charleston Expression. When we accomplish these we will be a beacon in the night to light the way to those in the community who may not be in need physically but are spiritually destitute. We will be an example of oneness (John 17) that will point to the truth that Jesus has come from God and is the only way of salvation.

The fifth purpose of the Charleston Expression is to be a model of a city/area wide expression of the body of Christ to other cities around the state, nation and to the uttermost parts of the earth. This will be accomplished by sending out missionary teams as directed by the Holy Spirit to minister to other cities and to the nations. These missionaries will be sharing the love, power, and wisdom of God to expand the Kingdom of God and share the model of the city-wide expression. This will hopefully encourage other cities to come together as the corporate body and be the expression in their cities.

This expression is not the end all, be all, but instead is more a fulfillment of Acts chapter 6. We will not be the answer that suddenly brings the Body together. Let us not have any illusions of grandeur, but instead let us recognize the part that we are to be in the Body of Christ in Charleston, SC and let us seek to fulfill it.
