Knowledge is Power PDF Print E-mail
Knowledge is Power, it is a phrase almost as old as history. Without the basic knowledge provided by a high school diploma or GED people are relegated to the back corners and lower parts of society. A person cannot achieve promotions, advancements and often times not even a significant pay raise without a GED. The Charleston Expression is committed to helping people in the low country improve their quality of life and their self-esteem by providing a safe and constructive learning environment for everyone. We believe in the value of every person and that each person has the right and responsibility to continue to improve themselves and the neighborhoods in which they live. In times past, loyalty, commitment and hard work were all that were required to succeed in society. In this new information age we live in today, not only is a high school diploma or equivalent a necessity but often even more education is required to advance in the work place. In the tri-county area around 20-35% of working age adults do not have high school credentials and approximately 800,000 people in South Carolina (over 33% of the population) do not have a high school diploma (Trident Literacy Assoc). The Charleston Expression is partnering with Trident Literacy Association to help people overcome a major obstacle on the road to success. We cannot continue without your help. Please pray for us, your prayers are needed and very important. We’re always looking for volunteers and of course donations of any kind are greatly appreciated.
